My Son

OK, I usually only post here once or twice a week, but the previous post was really lame, so I need something to kind of cover it up. I would just erase it, but it took a while to write. That doesn't mean there's anything of value in the post itself, it's just the idea of throwing away all that time...

I'd like to give a huge shout out to my oldest son though... He just turned 8 a month or 2 back. My wife and I both have relatives that struggle with body composition, which is to say they're big, both in terms of structure and in terms of weight. My son appears to have picked up these genes, and while he isn't exactly fat, he is a stocky young lad. He's not the most athletic soul either, but he tries. Recently he's been working on trying to improve his physique. I think some of it is my having lost a lot of weight last year. I'm hoping that his motivation is positive - want to be healthier, instead of not wanting to be fat - If you know what I mean.

Yesterday, he and I ended up alone in the house over lunch. I had joked that he'd have to come running with me, which he looked less than enthused about, but then I decided to do an hour long Iron Yoga work out. I may post more on this another time, but it's basic Yoga moves and sequences, combined with a dumbell workout. It's pretty strenuous.

Not only did he decide to join me, but he made it through the entire thing, and even looked like he enjoyed it. My body is trashed today because of it, but emotionally I'm on cloud nine! I'll always love him no matter what, but I'm really proud that he stuck with it, and gave it a solid try. That's my boy!!

  1. Good man! I am living proof that you don't need to be at all gifted athletically to be an athlete (a sucky athlete, but an athlete). Perhaps this can be something the two of you do regularly - father-son bonding, and fitness. What could be better?

  2. I'm hoping so... We've been doing a few things like this together lately, and I think we've both enjoyed it.

Speaking of athletes... That was what surprized me at the first triathlon I did... I was expecting an army of toned, well tanned super humans, but what I saw was almost every other body type as well.

Something that always inspires me, is seeing someone who is terribly overweight jogging around the track at the local high school... Well that is until you realize that they've gone a few miles more than you, and they breeze by you while you're stopped and breathing really heavy, and then you feel like a total loser!
