I watched Hotel Rwanda on friday night. I used to enjoy a good war or hero movie, but in recent years these kind of movies have started to really disturb me. After watching this particular movie, I was left with just a profound sense of sadness. I think war is very seldom the answer. World War 2, as Nazi Germany were advancing and performing a mass extermination of the jews is one of the few exceptions. I think a heavily armed and well trained force can be an excellent deterrant to violence, but it seems these only get deployed when oil is at stake. Looking at what happend in Sudan, Rwanda and is currently happening in the Sudan, I have to think there must be a way we can respond better to these situations than just making heart wrenching movies after the fact.
Some words from a Linkin Park song have been in my mind lately... "When the rich wage war, it's the poor who die."
Aren't we all brothers and sisters?
I hear you. I have to avoid certain movies these days - especially true stories because eventhough it is important that the story is told, it also really disturbs me.
