Health Care Solutions Part 2

OK, so following up from my post of last week...

The post which got this all started, and where you can read all the comments is here.

I've been going the rounds with a young british lass by the name of Travel Vixen. I think we both want the same thing, and I've come to realize that neither of us will solve the problem on our own, but it's going to take working together to fix some societal problems. In saying going the rounds, I don't mean to imply fighting, just passionate debate. I was delighted to find that she had good solid reasoning behind her opinions, and was able to share them, without attacking me personally. I hope I was able to convey the same courtesy to her.

My approach is that the government should not get involved. Free healthcare to all means that a cumbersome government beaurocracy will have to be setup, and it will result in an organization that spends copious quantities of money and is abused by many who don't need it.

TV's approach is that there are many who do need it, and many have been failed by the Free Markey economy, which is the system that I would hope would fix the problem. Either way I think we're going to have problems.

I think it would take a lot of work, and require people from both sides to find a compromise and work together on the solution. I can't see this happening in our current system. It's also part of the reason I will be voting for Barrack Obama. I think he's probably on the same page as TravelVixen, but he doesn't appear to be of the same bottom feeding, partisan fabric as the other candidates on both sides. At least I hope he's better than that.

While we wait for a good solution there, another blogger - Dee offered another approach. I need to research it some more, but it seems that Remote Area Medical (ramusa.org) is an organization that is doing something about the problem, and all from private donations.

I think at the end of the day, I would like to be the one making the choice as to whether I give money or not. Having it taken from me by a government that has betrayed my trust more ways than I can count, just leaves a bad tast in my mouth. Voluntarily choosing to support a worthy cause like ramusa.org or Primary Children's Hospital or another equally worthy cause, leaves me feeling far better. I think most people would likely agree with that.

I'd like to be my brothers keeper, rather than have it forced on my by Big Brother!
