I wrote a post a week or so back, in which I related an experience I'd had an organized religion, and a few other things. Originally I started this blog, so I had a place to bitch and moan about religion, and people could read my regular blog without being subjected to it. I probably should have put that post in this one, although it did get quite the response. That posting is here.
Yesterday the incident was brought up again. I couldn't tell if the person who raised it was making the target of a bad joke, or if they were making fun of the stupidity of the whole thing. I'm going to assume it was the latter to avoid further caring about what other morons think.
I was kind of bugged by the whole meeting anyway. In that same posting, I included a quote by Philip Pullman, talking about the problem he sees with organized religion. Specifically the political structure that tends to evolve within the organization, and then effect if has where people focus more on advancing within the structure than what they should be focussed on.
The meeting yesterday was attended by a high official from the party, I mean church... The entire meeting was focussed on how fortunate we were to have him in our presence. His comments were about how he celebrated Easter in a more spiritual way than the rest of us too, and followed along the same lines of how privileged we were that he would come and allow is to bask in his presence. There is an interesting scripture that we used to share when I was a missionary for this church. It talks about the apostasy between the time of Christ and now. If you are familiar with LDS/Mormon teachings this is fairly significant. The verse we would share is 2 Thessalonians 2:3. I'd like to include 4 in that as well...
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
You know, interestingly enough, the guy in Church yesterday, seemed to be doing a lot of verse 4 type stuff.
If I may bitch about 1 other thing...
A month or 2 back, the First Presidency of the Church came out in support of Illegal Immigrants. They were sneaky about it, but that was the end result. Illegal aliens in Utah rejoiced.
2 weeks ago, the same First Presidency issued a letter warning about the seriousness of Fraud.
Funnily enough, you can't really be successful as an illegal immigrant unless you use fraudulent documents to allow yourself to get work.
Hmmmm... Something about a house divided on itself comes to mind.
