Last week on one of the comedy news shows I watch, a comment was made about how the candidates have specific phrases they use, with certain language, but has a completely different meaning. The example given was Mr. McCain saying that he would appoint judges who correctly interpret the consitution and wouldn't legislate from the bench, which is Republican code for a judge who will help us overturn Roe vs. Wade.
There is something else I've been hearing a lot recently. It's the phrase...
"I'm scared of Obama, I'm just not sure who is pulling his strings" and other similar things like that.
I've made the comment that while I am anti-socialist policies, I'd rather have an honest socialist in office that a socialist pretending not to be.
"I just don't think we know how socialist Obama is..."
I think I know what these people are getting at... I think all this appararent ignorance is a smoke screen for "I don't want to vote for a Black man."
By feigning ignorance, they protect themselves from being called racists, because there really is no defence for that, and by questioning, rather than answering a question of what policies you oppose, they elminate the need to discuss something they obviously know nothing about.
As someone who just barely registered as a libertarian, I am very seriously considering voting for Mr. Obama. Not that it will make a difference in the Republican state of Utah, but at least I will be able to sleep at night.
Likewise I shall be voting for the Democratic gubernatorial candidate for the Utah Governor. The current Republican in office has lost my respect, and the Libertarian candidate is not a Libertarian - actually he and Mrs. Pallin share many similarities.
Before you attack me... I do believe there are many Replicans out there who may be voting for Mr. McCain because of a sincere belief in the Replublican platform. But please also read what some of those who profess to believe the same as you do have been saying and doing, right here.
Welcome back to the blogsphere, UK!
ReplyDeleteAs if I didn't feel bad enough about missing a couple of weeks ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've been checking in from time to time though, just haven't gotten around to posting as much. I don't know if you ever check out my other blog, but I posted what I think was a valid reason out there - I ran my first marathon last weekend, buffered on both sides by a short family vacation.
It does feel good to be back though! I'll have to send over a facebook friend request too - I hooked up with Elena a few weeks ago - Just my Urban Koda persona has not yet broken through to my facebook profile, in the hopes of preserving some semblance of peace with the extended family.
Congrats on running the marathon, that's outstanding. How did you do?
ReplyDeleteNow I understand this mysterious "I don't know if Obama really loves this country" comment I keep hearing. Sigh.
Thanks! I wasn't way speedy, but I thought I posted a respectable time - 4:13 and some change.
ReplyDeleteNow - I'm not saying for sure that's what the code meant to be interpretted as, but it does seem to make sense. I wonder is Ms. Pallin's "America needs to know who Barack Obama is" is her way of saying "Hello People!!! He's a black man!!"
I guess you could ask her, but she always runs away from the microphone so damn fast, and she's likely give some rambling, non commital answer about a completely unrelated topic if you could corner her.
Seriously - why can't the Republicans pick a worthy candidate, and why can't their candidates just call a shovel a shovel.
