Compensation and the Start of a New Journey

Did you know that the president of the United States makes $400,000 a year + additional amounts for travel and other expenses related to the office.

It may seem like a lot of money, but the incumbent (who I just found out should be referred to as "The Honorable..." within the country) has a huge amount of responsibility upon his or her shoulders.

I've heard that it's comparable to pay for a CEO of a large organization, although as President of the United States, they don't get stock options or anything like that - perhaps if they did, then decisions might be made differently.

I've been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now. Not necessarily about the President and how much he gets paid, but about organizations and how money gets accumulated and distributed within the organization.

I'm going to be blogging about this more in the next few weeks, specifically how it pertains to certain religious organizations.

I've got something for you to think about though...

Let's say that you accept the premise of Christianity. The idea that a person by the name of Jesus lived about 2000 years ago, and that he was the starting point for modern day Christianity.

Looking at the life of Jesus as recorded in the Holy Bible we can learn some interesting things about him.

1 - He did not appear to have a home, rather he traveled from place to place, preaching love for God and one's fellow man.

2 - He was not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, at least not as it pertains to worldly possessions. In fact on at least one occasion he instructed a wealthy man to sell all that he had, give the money to the poor and follow him.

3 - He never considered anyone better than himself and treated all with respect and kindness.

Considering all of that, suppose you were to be tasked with re-organizing a religion based purely on those teachings. In fact, once organized a key claim would be that it is merely a continuation of the same organization.

What do you think you would come up with?

Keep that in mind... Over the next few weeks, I wish to take a journey into the world of organized religion as it exists today, specifically Christianity. The religion that claims to be based on the life of one Jesus Christ.

Please join me as we look at the past, the present and the future of this movement.
