I've learned from experience that when I posted warnings on here, they serve more giant "Go ahead and read this" signs, more than deterrents, but this time I'm serious.
If you are LDS or your basic Christian type person, you will be offended by this.
Which means you're probably going to watch it anyway, but by so doing you hereby relinquish any right at posting nasty comments... Although perhaps such comments could be kinda fun for the rest of us to read.
Perhaps what I'm saying is... Go ahead! Watch it, and then tell me what you think.
This is not a nasty comment. Maher is hilarious and Penn Jillette laughing at him makes it all the better. It's a perfectly fair question to ask if someone gullible enough to profess Mormonism ought to be in charge of the US Government.
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI know I grew up Mormon, so the crazy beliefs don't seem so crazy to me - they're just normal... However, is believing the Book of Mormon is real any more crazy than a lot of other things that politicians say and believe?
ReplyDeleteLike... I don't know... they're not in it for power? Or the changes they promise they can actually bring? Or if we believe that they actually mean what they say?
I do love Bill Maher though...
Jen, I would agree with you. My motives in posting were mostly driven by the comment about leprechauns, and the great quote, "When I heard the Mormons were here, I dropped my snake!"
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest fear with a Mormon president is not that the candidate would believe in crazy stuff, but more that they would merely be puppets for their religious leaders.
In Romney's case, I do not that his father came under fire from a GA for not siding with the bigots in SLC during the Civil Rights movement, and so as far as that goes, I think he may actually be better at keeping religion and politics separate than say an Orin Hatch.
If you're going to vote Mormon though, I'd much rather go Huntsman, but that advise comes from a bitter, ex-mormon atheist, so take it for what it's worth ;-)
I like Huntsman far better... although really, I can't imagine voting Mormon... because I am a sometimes-angry, ex-mormon, deist (today, but tomorrow I could be something entirely different.)
ReplyDeleteSince leaving the church, I can't quite figure out where I land politically... Suddenly not having someone else tell me what to think, how to vote, where I stand on issues - it's confusing sometimes.
