I like this video for a couple of reasons:
First, the British accent and timbre of Mr. Cleese voice reminds me of my late grandfather.
Second, I think he nailed it on his analysis of a certain political puppet.
I just don't get the whole fascination with the woman. Even right wing extremists I know don't like her, and yet she has this rabid fan club that seem oblivious to her actual person.
She quit her governorship amidst an IRS investigation and became a commentator on one of the most biased and polarizing 'news' agencies out there, and yet people still think she would be a good president? She doesn't quit they say... Really?!?
I read another quote yesterday which I think sums up Sarah Palin.
"How f***ing sacred is this person who's never contributed one thing to anyone's life but her own? And not even thinking about her politically or whatever she represents, it's just that she's just a coarse, selfish person who has ferocious protection and it makes no sense to me..."
Louis CK
But I think the following really nails who she is. When being interviewed about the State of the Union Address by President Obama...
"That was a tough speech to have to sit through and kinda' try to stomach, because the president is so off base in his ideas on how it is that he believes government is going to create jobs," said the former vice presidential candidate. "Obviously government growth won't create any jobs, it's the private sector that can create the jobs."
Host Greta Van Susteren had specifically asked for job creation options that differed from Obama's, but Palin decided to keep the focus on how much she disliked the president's.
When being asked about plans which would work, the talking parrot decided to keep the focus on how much she dislike the president's plans.
If you didn't know who she was, you might think her somewhat pretty, but as soon as she opens her mouth, you get to experience a narcissistic bitch, whose has absolutely nothing positive to offer the world.
I guess we're on the same wavelength this week; I've been looking at a lot of Sarah Palin stuff too, only at the Babygate stuff... apparently in my refusal to have nothing to do with politics during the election, I missed all this (I didn't miss the Obama birther controversy, though -- go figure).
ReplyDeleteNot sure I believe the wackiest theories out there yet, but just the lies and coverups during the whole drama are A Stound Ing. Reminds me what I knew before; the whole system is crappy, and those in charge are of it are less moral than most of our prison population (though possibly just as mentally ill).
On the other hand, I get the feeling most of the Palin publicity is Palin driven. I've gotten the feeling that the party itself is trying to distance itself from her... what do you think?
Wow, it's just so true. What I hate most about her behavior is that she acts like she's some kind of feminist dynamo, breaking barriers or something. And all she really does is prance around saying mean things about other people.
ReplyDelete@clink - Sometimes I see distancing, and sometimes I don't. I think your average, decent Conservative see her for what she is. However, we can't deny that she does a tremendous job of tapping into people's fears and hatreds and using those emotions to rile them up - and that is tremendously powerful.
ReplyDeleteI actually read an article on marketing earlier this week that stated that sometime controvery sells better. They found that people on dating sites who highlighted weird beliefs and things like tatoos, generally got a higher response rate.
@Carla. Couldn't agree more. I like feminists, and in many ways I think I am a feminist, and Ms. Palin... IS NOT FEMINIST. In many ways, I think she's been used by the party, and I almost want to feel bad for her... almost!!
