The Rapture

I got sent a link to an excellent article by Mark Morford this morning, entitled: The great happy Vatican death spiral

It's worth a read, but I felt he saved the very best part for the end, where he ended with this gem...

The Rapture is when the major karmic roadblocks of man -- all the Vaticans, popes, temples, cults, megachurches and even most organized religions all stagger and collapse under the weight of their inherent hypocrisy, all the oppressed sexuality, the homophobia, misogyny, fear of science, the denial of true spiritual source.

You could call it one of the greatest ironies of man: Only when our supposedly "holy" dogmas, institutions and leaders fail, can the human soul ever truly be free.

Amen and Amen Mr. Morford. I couldn't have said it better myself - which is why I quote your words here!

  1. 'true spiritual source' - I'm still working on acknowledging and embracing mine. I spent so long thinking I was doing something wrong because I wasn't getting the buzz described by others at church. I am slowly realising the potential that humans have to 'connect with' the universe?! and feel great happiness.. is it a bit like that tree in Avatar? It's all new to me. All I know is that I feel much better out of religion than in!

  2. p.s. that article was very good. Bloody Catholic crooks! all those children with mental scars! When I had my first 'lesson' about the difficulties with an interventionist god I said that I would gladly have given up a measure of my free agency to ensure that no child would ever have had to endure the awful crimes mentioned in the article. (This is when I still believed in god) I would much prefer for every child to be guaranteed a safe and happy childhood than have the opportunity to do whatever I want whenever I want. Ugh! I hate that my life has been so good and other people have had such a rotten time.

  3. My pleasure Montello!

I hear you Maureen on the feelings associated with having a good life.

And while I don't want to defend the Catholic Church or any other church, Mormons included, I think it's really sad that these deviants are likely a rather small minority. I suspect the majority of the leaders - particularly the local guys are likely in their jobs with the best of intentions. Honestly believing in God, and honestly trying to help people improve their lives.

And finally... All I know is that I feel much better out of religion than in!

    AMEN SISTER!!!
