Honor thy Mother and Father

I saw this clip from 20/20 a while back. The last part of the story covering the relationship between the featured family and their 24 year old daughter really struck me.

I contrast that with the following clip. Obviously this is a movie, but it's the kind of relationship I want to have with my kids. It appears that embedding may be disabled, so simply click on the link to watch it on YouTube.

It's a clip from Blood Diamond. It's a movie which is based on true events, although the father and son may be a fictional addition, around which to based the the movie. Earlier on in the movie, the father is captured and the son is kidnapped and brainwashed into being a member of the militia. He kills people and is turned into a killing machine. Despite all of this, I can't help but tear up at the fathers response.

Mr. Hackman, over at Hackman's Musings made the comment that this was how he viewed God. If there is indeed a God, he would have to be something like this, in order for me to worship him.

  1. That is heartbreaking. For coming from that environment the daughter at least seems to be doing well.
