I was accused of a couple of things when I was younger. One was of being too trusting and too naive, and the other was that I was too optimistic and needed to be more realistic.
I'm still pretty optimistic, although I do think the originators of those accusations did have a temporary effect on me.
I found a quote today that validates my feelings perfectly. It's by a guy called Chris Guillebeau, founder of The Art of Non-Conformity website.
Every time someone tells you to 'be realistic' they are asking you to compromise your ideals.
