Teaser

So yesterday, my Sunday School lesson was on The Atonement of Christ.

It was an interesting lesson to share with the kids I teach, and part of the lesson was my showing them a video called the Mediator.

The video is based on a "parable" shared by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, one of the governing bodies of the LDS Church.

The man is question, is one of those who believes that an honest study of history is a bad thing, so I'll be honest that I started off the video with somewhat of a negative attitude.

Actually, as the video played, I was bothered too, but his extensive use of the words "Fool" and "Foolish" to describe the man in the parable who represents each of us.

But even with those negative thoughts coursing around through my brain, as I watched the video, which tried to explain the gospel principles of Justice and Mercy, I made some other connections.

I think there is a connection between the LDS teachings of Justice and Mercy, and the idea of Karma.

I've also been thinking a great deal about Evolution lately, and believe it or not, I think that ties into the thoughts I had as I watched the video as well.

I need to spend some time sitting and gathering my thoughts about this, so I'm afraid this is just a teaser, but hopefully I can come up with a coherent explanation as to how these principles are connected in the next day or two.

  1. So... is the point of the video that Heavenly Father is a cruel-ass MF, and we need Jesus to rescue us from his unreasonable rigidity?

  2. Pretty much and we were foolish for coming to earth - even though apparently it was what Heavenly Father wanted us to do, and it is taught to be a great gift when that part of the doctrine is taught.

    Cognitive Dissonance Rulz!!!

I think you'll like my alternative view on all of it though...
