The Future

The question from yesterday's TED video has been bouncing around my brain for the last 24 hours. Aside from netting no more than 8 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours, I'm actually feeling pretty chipper and upbeat.

What if I succeed?

I have some ideas I'm working on - or at least I really need to get working on. It's time I took a little more control of my destiny and started making a difference.

Of course I'm still looking for that one idea that's going to make the difference, but who's to say I don't have it in my arsenal already.

Execution is going to be the key, and in keeping with that, here is a collection of quotes I've gathered over the past few month relating to this topic.

The day you say "that SOB stole my idea" is the day you need to face your own inability to execute.

Not sure who said that, but perhaps it was Chris Guillebeau

I think people visit psychics because they lack the imagination to make up their own future

I think that came from a twitterer/twit who goes by the handle xJane - very insightful

The world belongs to the enthusiastic.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

There is no reason to have a plan B because it distracts from plan A

Will Smith

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

Albert Einstein

I've picked up a couple of themes which resonated with me as well - I suspect these may have been from blog postings, YouTube videos or other TED talks. Perhaps I paraphrased them... Actually I don't remember, I just pasted them into a text document on my computer at the time...

Create a habitat for happiness - an environment for happiness!

If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

So where does this all take me...

I need to do something, and it needs to be designed to allow success and happiness to happen.
I need to make sure that doing that something doesn't detract from the stuff that really matters. My health and my family.
I need to make sure that I do what it takes, because if it doesn't happen the responsibility is mine alone. Even if I fail, it means that I tried, and that is better than nothing!

Kind of abstract I guess, but perhaps as I proceed in this direction, I'll post updates here.

Finally, for those of you with a business mindset, I read an excellent blog posting yesterday. Business type information kind of interests me, but this really got my attention. I think I initially started following this guy after a talk he gave at TED.
