Y'all know I lean left, and you probably know that I used to lean really far right prior to a couple of years ago. The thing is though that sometimes a guy or gal who generally differs from me on political opinion, sometimes has something good to say, and I think it's important to recognize that and give credit, where credit is due.
Such is that case with this appearance by Utah Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz on the Rachel Maddow Show the other night.
Mr. Chaffetz - Yes, it's time to bring the troops home!
Chaffetz still has a lot to learn though. He got caught up in the furor of war chants against North Korea during the (what I believe to be a) false flag against the South Korean ship a few weeks ago.
Alan - I think it speaks a little to the gap between the Republicans and the Tea Party folks. I think Chaffetz leans Tea Party, but sometimes it's hard to tell.
Dave P. Looks like I missed an important news story... Generally I don't like what Chaffetz has done, although I do find a couple of his approaches to be refreshing. And when he does something right, I think he should be commended - especially since I think the war dogs on the right will likely give him a hard time over this one.
That's helpful info, Dave. I don't know enough about Chaffetz to comment on his Tea Party leanings, Koda, but do you think he leans toward the REAL Tea Partiers, or to the establishment counterfeit personified by Sarah Palin? It would be good to know if he's informed or simply an opportunist.
Alan, I honestly don't know, but I suspect he might be more real Tea Party, but the evidence I have is limited to this vote. I haven't followed much of what he has done, since he's not from my district, but from what I can tell, he has actually stuck to the limited government platform he ran and got elected on. He appears to be informed.
The whole Sarah Palin thing... I think the sooner people realize there is a difference the better, but I think the lines between the two have been blurred on purpose.
Koda, it's great news to see Republicans waking up. Too bad most of them couldn't see the light when it was their own man in office.
ReplyDeleteIt's also too bad that some democrats who opposed the war when it was Bush's war are remaining silent rather than criticize Obama for escalating it.
Always like reading your views, my friend.
