Ooooops!

Have you ever had a really great idea, only to realize that someone else had it first, and that it's entirely possible that they influenced you to have the great idea?

So for the past couple of weeks, I've been trying to post a TED video every Tuesday. I like TED video's and TED and Tuesday start with the same sound, so it sounds catchy, and I just thought it was the most brilliant idea all around.

TED on Tuesday: Video Name Here

And then I noticed that another blog I've started following was doing the same thing, except she was calling it... TED Talk Tuesday. She seems nice enough, and I've often been told that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and so there I sat still feeling proud of what I'd come up with, and feeling slightly complimented that someone else had picked up on what I was still thinking was my brilliant idea.

TED on Tuesday

It just rolls off the tongue - doesn't it?

So I was over on her blog today, because while I thought the TED talk I posted was somewhat entertaining, her talk today was even better.

And as I was delving around, I saw a comment on another post (actually a couple of comments) encouraging her to keep posting videos, and how insightful they are... YouTube videos typically aren't insightful, and that was when it struck me...

WHAT IF SHE CAME UP WITH TED TALK TUESDAY FIRST... AND I WAS THE DORK WHO STOLE THE IDEA?!?!?

So I did a quick search on her blog for the term TED, and it turns out that I am indeed a dork, and I must have subconsciously picked up the idea for TED posts on Tuesday from her...

So... I'm going to dispense with TED on Tuesday beginning today, although I'll likely still try and post a TED video on occasion, I'll just leave the special Tuesday ones to her.

Ms. Hauge, please accept my humblest apologies!

If I could direct you over to her (Ms. Hauge's ) blog however... It's called The Whore of all the Earth, and I would highly, highly recommend it - especially today's post, and the TED video which goes with it.

  1. Koda, no need to apologize! And no need to dispense with "TED on Tuesday" if you don't wish to. Neither "TED" nor "Tuesday" are copyrighted. :-) And I am only one of many blogs that does a "Friday Funny."

I used to have a feature called "Think about it" Thursday, where I asked critical thinking questions, but I stopped that one because I couldn't think of anymore questions.

  2. I try to put up a weekly brainteaser on my cubicle's white board at work. Finding them is always the hard part but people have said they enjoy working to solve them, especially since I usually have a prize for the first one to solve it.

  3. Thanks Leah - perhaps I'll keep it going... Or maybe I'll try and come up with some other kind of catchy slog - and link it to a different day!

Dave - now if only I'd know about that back in the day, when I worked there! Of course you may not have been there yet, and I was too afraid to leave my floor, in case one of the big wigs caught me without a suit coat on :-)

  4. I stole the title, "80s Monday" (before I turned it into "80s Music Monday"). I felt fine about it, since I gave a hat tip to the person I stole it from.

Anyway, if you're still uncomfortable with "Tuesday" even after Leah said it's OK, you could try something like "Today's TED" or "This week in TED"...
