Hinduism

I've always kind of liked some of the teachings of Hinduism. I was reading an article today by Mark Morford and I came across a link to another piece he had written about a Hindu deity he is trying to display in his home. It's an interesting article, which I'll link to below, but there was a paragraph in the middle of it that struck me...

I will say one thing: Unlike other forms of worship, with icons like this (and in Hinduism in general), you do not bow down in shriveled meekness. You are meant to meet the deity at eye level. It is not about submissive subservience, not in the way the West thinks of it, anyway. It is not about you being a flawed, guilty sinner and the god is above you looking down, saying "Tsk, tsk, tsk." There is no separation. No duality. As with any of the Hindu gods, it's all aspects of the self. You are looking at you.

Not bowing down in shriveled meekness and not being a flawed, guilty sinner. I could definitely get with that program.

The original article is here.

  1. I like that idea very much. I hate the idea that Christianity teaches of people being damaged and lost requiring atonement and saving.

I am me and that is all that matters. I don't need to be saved.

  2. It's the ultimate product... They create the need, and are able to provide the services to kind of fill the need, on an ongoing basis, and if you include teachings to breed like rabbits, the income base is assured for generations to come.
