The Religion of Violence

Back in the aftermath of 9/11 I recall a lot of people making a huge deal about Islam being the 'Religion of Peace'.

I suspect a number of Christians might claim that their religion is the 'Religion of Peace'. I personally resonate with scriptural quotes like, "As I have loved you, love one another" and "Love your neighbor, as yourself".

I suspect most Christians and follower of Islam truly are peaceful people. I do have to wonder though, if perhaps this majority of peaceful and genuinely good intentioned people, don't perhaps give credibility to those at the fringes who take the religious message to an extreme.

Do you remember back in 2006 when there was an incident in Mexico, in which severed heads where thrown into a dance club? Did you know that there was a religious link?

Care to guess what religion it was?

Islam - coz they seem to like beheading people?

No, actually it's a Christian Cult.

And it turns out that there's a link to religious groups in the US as well. And these groups aren't just fringe groups... Groups like Focus on the Family.

I found out a great deal of this from an article on AlterNet. Some of it may shock you - it did me, but then I got to wondering why it shocked me, since I've grown up around nutjobs like this... Hell - at points in my life, I may actually have been a part of crap like this...

  1. Not to mention all the "good" Christian members of the US military who take pride in killing innocent "evil" Muslim civilians (with an extra bonus if they happen to be women or children).

  2. Focus on the Family is not a religion of peace. Listen to the Almighty Rev. D. and show me any love or peace radiating from his soul.

If you are looking for examples of Christian love, I would steer clear of anything connected to that (multi-million dollar) organization.

  3. Dave P. Yep - and your comment kind of inspired my post for today - combined with a couple which Rock did last year on the matter.

Clink... Are you suggesting that that Focus on the Family haven't been incredibly blessed by God due to their courage in the face of evil persecution, but that they've gotten their money from somewhere else?
