It was a pretty cold and dreary weekend. Aside from my computer woes, we tried to help the kids have a decent weekend. A couple of them had a Halloween party on Saturday, and we spent yesterday afternoon at the pool with them.
I was awakened early this morning by incredibly heavy rain and wind. The heavens seems to have opened up and just dumped on the valley. Parts of the area had snow as well, and it was a rude awakening to the fact that summer is well and truly over.
If there is a good side to it though... Mrs. Koda and I got to really snuggle down in bed last night to keep warm. I like snuggling into the blankets, and having another body to snuggle with rocks!
The other good thing is that I got to break out a sweatshirt to wear to work today. I love sweatshirts, especially the hooded kind. The soft fabric envelops you and gives you the feeling as though you're being hugged closed and warm.
My middle daughter has started asking for hugs. It started last week. I got home and she was looking sad, so I asked if she wanted a hug to make her feel better. She nodded and I gave her a nice big bear hug. She protested that it was too tight, but then there she was about 30 minutes later asking for another.
It continued all weekend long. She's fun to hug.
I like hugging Mrs. Koda too. Apparently when you hug someone, there is a chemical reaction, which results in the release of feel good stuff in your body. I forget where I heard it, but apparently the hug has to last for more than a few seconds as well. It could be a load of crap - just one of those urban legends, but I'd rather not know for sure just yet. I like hugging and I think the feel good effect works.
I've had groups of people in my life think I was gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you! Apparently it was a pretty big rumor back when I was a missionary. One of the sisters kept telling me that there were some elders that she just knew were batting for the other team, and I could never get her to tell me who they were. When I shared the story with Mrs Koda after our marriage (She trained the sister in question), she busted up, and then blurted out that it was me.
I hope my prowess in the bedroom has convinced her otherwise!! Again, not that there's anything wrong with it!
Anyway, but the thing is, I think I like hugs from guys too. There's just something about being embrace by someone bug and strong. Of course guys are generally too freaked out by the concept of a guy hug - even within family relationships, so I don't know if I've ever had a guy hug last more than a second or two, and even then it was kind a distant hug, with minimal body contact.
I just think it would be cool to hug a guy, and be able to enjoy it. I don't think it would be sexual in anyway, just comforting and warm.
Kind of like a nice soft over-sized sweatshirt on a cold fall morning, but better.
Interesting. Hugging has been pretty free in the Christian churches I've been in, and not restricted to gender at all. Women are always freer to hug each other, of course, but the guys will hug too, especially if they haven't seen each other in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteAnd my big hunky teens hug their brothers, younger and older, pretty frequently. I guess we're a huggy family.
My dog loves hugs too and I love giving them to him. On windy nights like last night, when he gets scared from the wind, he'll come down to my room and just cuddle up for a good portion of the night.
ReplyDelete@Clink - I'm not saying that hugging is frowned upon in the Mormon world... I think it's pretty free as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm just advocating for more hugging!
I think it would make the world a better place.
@Dave P. - Agreed! Dog hugs are great as well... And horse hugs. Not sure if you can hug cats though... I suspect you can, but I'd end up all red eyed and itchy if I tried - unfortunately!
I love hugs too. You can borrow Bowie if you want a good man hug, he is very snuggly:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer... Man Hug and Snuggly just seem a little at odds with each other - don't you think?
ReplyDeleteI love hugs!
ReplyDeleteMy husband's uncle likes to give really big long hugs - to men and women. I don't know if it's because he's a massage therapist and he's used to touching people or because he just loves everybody a whole lot, but he gives the best hugs!!
I love hugs, but I think I put off a "nooo touchie" vibe for some reason. Either that or I *really* attract "nooo touchie" friends.
ReplyDeleteEh.
I love hugs from guys, too. Feels safe and they're strong and bigger than me and, yes. It's nice.
But I'm a big fan of girl hugs, too. They're often more in tune with how they hug.
I dunno, thinking about it, it's kind of like a handshake huh? Because, really, you can get a lame hug too. I've gotten those.
But yeah, girl hugs are good. I dunno why, softer? More emotional? I like them. While I really like good guy smells (not sweaty), there's something especially nice about girl smells.
It might just be a matter of communicating an assurance of friendship. That feels good coming from anyone.
There were rumors about me, too. But mostly, as far as I know, because I rarely if ever wore dresses. But I had some of the stereotypical signs. Still have the birkenstocks! haha. I married a dude I'm super attracted to, but there have been real girl crushes too.
Lol! I guess you're right, man hugs and snuggly don't go well together. Maybe he's only snuggly with me:)
